“Reputation is gained over a lifetime, but is lost in an instant. Henley & Partners has a remarkable reputation, which needs to be treasured,”he says.
Hugh Morshead has been a Group Director of Henley & Partners, the global leaders in residence and citizenship planning, since 2010. He is a member of the Henley & Partners Executive Committee, where he maintains responsibility for audit, compliance and corporate governance matters for the global operations of the company.
Morshead was part of the pivotal team responsible for overseeing the development and launch of the Malta Individual Investor Programme in 2013, which began with the submission of a concept paper for the Government of Malta. He was involved with the subsequent negotiations and contractual stage and finally the incorporation and commencement of commercial operations, and cites his proudest professional achievement as signing the agreement with the Government.
As a qualified accountant and Associate of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (ACMA), Morshead had a successful career in his birth city of London, the majority of which as Director of Marketing at a leading financial services firm for 14 years, prior to joining Henley & Partners. He has also fulfilled a selection of other important roles in regulated financial services business during his professional life.
Morshead is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant and he a Member of the Investment Migration Council (IMCM).
Being an all-rounder, Morshead says he is equally happy to deal with product development, management of prospective clients and introducers, speaking at events and dealing with the nitty gritty of company administration and corporate governance.
His business philosophy is all about reputation and vision. He says, “Reputation is gained over a lifetime, but is lost in an instant. Henley & Partners has a remarkable reputation, which needs to be treasured. A failure to do so, either on the part of the company or any member of its staff, risks tarnishing everything achieved thus far both for the company and its people.”
On vision, Morshead adds, “Henley & Partners is recognized as the global leader in the field of residence and citizenship. This reputation has been achieved by having a clear vision for the future shape of the market and working in an ethical, just and responsible manner”.
He also believes achieving reputation and vision begins with successful recruitment and training. New entrants at Henley & Partners receive a high level of attention in order that they will successfully make the transition from trainee to entrepreneurial business experts. Morshead says, “Nothing makes me more pleased than when a new member of staff becomes successful in their chosen field.”
Morshead is passionate about communication. He advises, “Getting one’s message across is at the heart of what we do. This applies both internally within Henley & Partners and when dealing with any external parties. If it is quicker and more efficient to pick up the phone, then we don’t email.”
In his free time, Morshead is an active musician, playing double bass in local orchestras and singing in two choirs. He says, “It is important in life to have interests and achievements outside the work environment. It has broadened my base of social contacts and I always feel refreshed when I get back to my desk.”
