Integrated Support for a Child in the UAE

A family based in the UAE approached Henley & Partners Education seeking support for their young child, who had been diagnosed with ongoing developmental and cognitive challenges. The objective was to create a structured and coordinated learning environment capable of supporting the child’s academic, social, and developmental progress.

Over the past year, the Henley & Partners Education team has developed a multidisciplinary support framework tailored to the child’s needs. This framework brings together a group of specialists working collaboratively towards shared developmental milestones, ensuring alignment and consistency across all areas of support.

Aligning School, Therapy, and Home

The process began with safeguarding training for the appointed teacher, establishing clear protocols to ensure the wellbeing of both the child and the educator. This included maintaining appropriate professional boundaries, following structured procedures for welfare concerns, and adhering to relevant legal requirements, while also equipping the educator to manage situations with confidence and clarity.

This was followed by coordinated sessions with occupational therapists and close collaboration with a physical therapist to support motor development. In parallel, the team worked alongside a speech and language therapist, continuously adapting interventions in response to the child’s evolving needs.

Henley & Partners Education also partnered closely with the child’s teacher to develop lesson plans tailored to the child’s developmental stage and learning profile. A key priority throughout was maintaining clear and consistent communication among all professionals involved. This integrated approach ensured that each specialist reinforced the others’ work, avoiding fragmented or siloed interventions.

In addition to working with specialists, the team provided ongoing guidance to the family. Regular progress reports were shared, and the parents received practical training on strategies that could be implemented at home. These included encouraging independence through everyday tasks such as self-care and simple decision-making, while supporting the development of motor skills, confidence, self-esteem, and problem-solving abilities.

A critical part of the process involved helping the parents shift from completing tasks for the child to enabling the child to carry them out independently. At the same time, the team worked closely with the family to establish realistic expectations, particularly around the need for consistent, long-term support.

By aligning home practices with therapeutic and educational interventions, a consistent and supportive environment was created across all settings.

Measured Developmental Progress

After approximately 12 months of structured homeschooling supported by this multidisciplinary team, the child demonstrated meaningful and measurable developmental progress including a transition from parroting written text to demonstrating genuine reading comprehension alongside an improved ability to understand and process written material. The child has also shown the emergence of imaginative play — an important cognitive and social milestone — as well as the development of humor and the ability to tell jokes. In parallel, there have been notable gains in expressive communication and social interaction, together with strengthened core stability through coordinated occupational and physical therapy, improved gross motor coordination, and enhanced fine motor skills.

Building on this progress, Henley & Partners Education will next support the family in identifying appropriate school options that can sustain and further develop this integrated approach.
