Requirements for Argentina Residence

• Certificate of no criminal record from the country of origin and any country of residence during the past five years
• Valid health insurance from an authorized provider

Applicants may qualify under one of the following categories:

1. Rentista Visa

• For foreign nationals receiving a minimum monthly passive income of USD 1,500, which must be continuous, verifiable, and derived from legal sources outside Argentina
• Acceptable sources include rental income from real estate, dividends from equity funds or managed investment portfolios, interest from financial instruments, trust distributions, and other structured passive income streams
• The qualifying income must be transferred and received through a local bank account in Argentina, with evidence of regular inward transfers required to demonstrate compliance

2. Retirement Visa

• For foreign nationals receiving a minimum monthly lifetime pension of USD 1,500, which must be permanent in nature, legally granted, and issued by a governmental authority or public social security institution

3. MERCOSUR Residence

• For nationals of MERCOSUR member and associated countries, subject to applicable eligibility requirements

4. Digital Nomad Visa

• For individuals working remotely for employers or clients located outside Argentina
• Grants an initial six-month stay, which may be extended

Procedure for Argentina Residence

The process of obtaining residence in Argentina is managed by the Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (National Directorate of Migration), under Migration Law No. 25,871 and its implementing decrees.  Applicants must provide proof of passive income, pension income, MERCOSUR nationality, or foreign remote-work engagement, depending on the chosen route, together with a certificate of no criminal record and the required supporting documentation.

For Rentista and Retirement Visas, the legal sources of funds must be supported by documents such as bank statements, lease agreements, dividend certificates, or investment statements. Foreign-issued documents must be legalized or apostilled and, where applicable, officially translated into Spanish. Minimum income requirements may increase depending on family size and specific circumstances, while physical presence requirements vary by residence category.
